About the event
What is agility? Agility is a sport where you and your dog take on an obstacle course in a race for both time and accuracy. The obstacles include jumps, tunnels, weave poles, A-frames, seesaws, and more. You help guide your dog using voice, movement, and various signals, aiming to complete the course as quickly as possible without any errors.
Our agility socials are a great way to spend time with your dog, using our custom made professional equipment we will guide you every step of the way be it you just want to have fun or you have dreams of you and your dog competing in the future.
There are fantastic benefits to participating in dog agility, both for you and your furry friend:
1. **Physical Exercise**: Agility courses provide an excellent workout for both dogs and carers. The course demands bursts of energy, promoting cardiovascular health and muscle strength for both parties.
2. **Mental Stimulation**: Agility requires dogs to navigate obstacles and follow cues quickly, which keeps their minds sharp and engaged. It can also help in developing problem-solving skills as they learn to interpret your cues amidst distractions.
3. **Bonding**: Agility is a team sport, strengthening the bond between you and your dog. Working together to overcome obstacles and achieve goals fosters trust and communication, deepening your relationship.
4. **Confidence Building**: Successfully completing agility courses builds confidence in both dogs and carers. Dogs gain confidence as they conquer obstacles, and carers feel accomplished as they guide their furry companions through challenging courses.
5. **Improved Behaviour**: Agility training reinforces basic behaviour such as sit, stay, come, and wait. Dogs learn to respond quickly to commands, even in distracting environments.
6. **Socialisation**: Agility classes and competitions provide opportunities for dogs to socialise with other dogs and people. This exposure helps in developing good manners and reduces fear or anxiety towards unfamiliar situations or individuals.
7. **Fun and Enjoyment**: Agility is inherently fun for dogs due to its interactive and stimulating nature. Many dogs find joy in running, jumping, and exploring the agility course, making it an enjoyable activity for you both.
8. **Healthy Outlet for Energy**: For high-energy dogs, agility provides a constructive outlet for their energy. It channels their natural instincts to run and jump, preventing destructive behaviours that may arise from boredom or excess energy.
9. **Suitable for All Ages and Breeds**: Agility can be adapted to suit dogs of all ages, sizes, and breeds. Whether you have a young, energetic pup or an older dog looking for mental and physical stimulation, agility can be tailored to meet their needs.
So come and join us!
Like all our classes we only run small groups of no more than six dogs at a time. Each session will last an hour at our venue located just outside Harpenden on the edge of the Luton Hoo Estate and offers a peaceful, secure, and safe environment for our dogs to train.
